“Doc” Dodson, ATC

James “Doc” Dodson served the Permian Basin from 1958-2018. After graduating from TCU, where he studied under the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association (SWATA) charter member, Elmer Brown, Doc moved to Midland and began his career as Head Athletic Trainer of Midland High School. In 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson awarded Doc a certificate of merit for saving a young girls life, and in 1972 he traveled to Munich, Germany, where he became the first high school athletic trainer to ever be invited to the World Olympic Games.
